WOOM CENTER’s Elian Zach returns to lead the Modern ŌM community in a powerful breathwork journey of self-inquiry, mystery and magic.
By various ancient philosophies and cultures, breath is seen as the portal between the physical and the metaphysical. It is a tool to explore non-ordinary states of consciousness and release heavy stagnant energy, caused by unprocessed trauma and emotion. This circular breathing session, inspired by legendary psychiatrist and psychedelic researcher, Dr. Stanislav Grof’s Holotropic Breathwork Technique, will encourage a harmonious relationship between body, mind and spirit. Together we will travel deeply through conscious placement of breath, a musical journey, and a short listening portion to overtone-rich instruments.
HOW TO PREPARE
Set an intention - between now and then, set aside some time for some intuitive writing and see if anything interesting comes up that you'd like to further explore. If you're currently working on anything, you are welcome to simply write a clear intention, in free-form or bullet points. Please bring your written intentions on a piece of paper with you.
Consider the following:
What would you like to let go of?
Attachments, unhealthy habits or thought patterns, pain, grief, addictions, or anything that weighs heavy and doesn’t serve your greater purpose.
What would you like to welcome in?
Self-love, compassion, equanimity, discipline, pleasure, acceptance, or anything you believe might enhance your experience of being your best self.
What would you like to receive clarity about?
Relationships, work, the human experience, or the workings of the universe!
Prepare your vessel - to increase your sensitivity and openness, it is recommended that you refrain from alcohol intake and other substances for about 48-72 hours before the journey. Please, arrive on a fairly empty stomach.
What to bring - choose comfortable clothing (layers are the best, as change of body temperature may occur), bring an eye mask or a scarf to cover your eyes (very important!), a pillow and blankets to make the journey extra comfy, a refillable water bottle, a journal and a pen.

Elian received her formal training in sound therapy at The New York Open Center under the guidance of world-renowned sound researcher, practitioner and ethnomusicologist, Alexandre Tannous. An advanced, E-RYT yoga teacher, she completed her trainings and continuing education in New York with a variety of master teachers from different yogic disciplines, including Nevine Michaan of Katonah Yoga, Colleen Saidman and Rodney Yee of Yoga Shanti, Leslie Kaminoff, Ramanand Patel, Sam Chase and Kevin Gardiner. Elian is also a trained breathwork facilitator, a modality which she frequently incorporates into her offerings.
Early in her life’s journey, she was trained in classical and contemporary theatre at Circle in the Square Theatre School on Broadway, and has worked extensively on stage, film and television productions, as well as contributed her voice to various projects. She also worked as a professional writer for various online and printed publications around the world.
Together with David Shemesh, she co-founded WOOM CENTER, New York's first of its kind multi-sensory yoga and meditation studio, based primarily on the therapeutic and psychedelic properties of sound vibration, where she both facilitates and hosts practitioners from all over the country and the world. Along with Alexandre Tannous, David and Elian host WOOM Sound School several times each year, a celebrated sound practitioner training program.
WOOM has been featured in Vogue, The New York Times, New York Magazine, and Well + Good, and has also been covered by BuzzFeed, NowThis and The Culture Trip.
Elian has had the pleasure of sharing sound, breathwork and yoga with both smaller private groups and on larger scale events such as MediClub, Flavorpill’s Quiet Mornings at The MoMA, and Burning Man. The team has taken their work all over the world and facilitated experiences in Costa Rica, Ibiza, Tel Aviv, Colombia and Hong Kong.
Elian’s greatest joy is to meld all of her passions into one transformative practice that invites a holistic participation of the physical, emotional, intellectual, creative and spiritual bodies.
